Alkaline non-zinc plating is an environmentally friendly zinc-based plating process, using non-toxic chemicals and producing wastewater that is easy to treat. However, additives developed in different eras have different characteristics.
Characteristics of domestically produced alkaline non-zinc plating solutions in the 1970s:
①The coating has fine crystals, good gloss, and dispersion and deep plating capabilities close to chemical plating solutions;
②The plating solution is stable and easy to operate and maintain;
③It is non-corrosive to equipment;
④Good overall economic benefits. This plating solution also has the disadvantages of slow deposition speed, a narrow allowable temperature range (above 40℃ is not good), and brittleness when the thickness exceeds 15μm.
Characteristics of imported alkaline non-zinc plating additives in the 1990s:
①High dispersion ability, the thickness of the coating is very uniform in high and low current density regions. The thickness ratio of the coating in the high current density region (4A/dm3) and the low current density region (0.2A/dm2) is 1.2~1.5 (generally 2.0~3.0 for general products), which greatly saves zinc consumption and cost;
②Low brittleness, with a thickness of 20μm, it can be bent arbitrarily without peeling. After being baked at 200℃ for 60min and immediately immersed in cold water for quenching, the coating does not bubble;
③The deep plating capability exceeds that of chemical zinc plating. The deposition speed in the low current density region is faster, the coating is thick, and there is no leakage after polishing. This process has the disadvantages of lower brightness, poor impurity resistance, easy yellowing and fogging of the coating, and poor high-temperature resistance of the plating solution, requiring cooling.
